The San Francisco 49ers have received a bit of a gift for Sunday's game as safety LaRon Landry has been ruled out. This is a big loss for the Colts, as Landry had been putting together a very solid season for the Colts. He is now second in the NFL in tackles, and Pro Football Focus has graded him out as the fourth best safety in the NFL.
Landry is a big hitter who is a big part of the Colts run defense. They also have listed safety Antoine Bethea as questionable, as he is dealing with a toe injury. Bethea sat out practice on Wednesday and Thursday, and was limited on Friday. Finally, inside linebacker Pat Angerer is listed as doubtful with a knee injury, and Cory Redding is questionable with a back injury that flared up on Friday. The Colts are a bit of the walking wounded right now.
Give these injuries, one has to wonder if it really does open the door for the 49ers to go hard and heavy with the run. The team could potentially be missing members of all three levels from defensive line to linebacker to safety. We want to see the 49ers open up the passing attack, but I have to say, I would love to see them roll out and run Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter for 175+ yards on Sunday. This Colts injury report would seem to indicate that kind of result is very possible.
