The San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams released their Week 4 inactives, and there are no real surprises. As expected, Patrick Willis and Nnamdi Asomugha are both inactive. In last week's game, Willis suffered a groin injury and Nnamdi suffered a knee injury. They sat out all three practice sessions, and on a short week, odds were slim that they would be active. The 49ers promoted Darryl Morris to the 53-man roster, which was a good sign Nnamdi was not going to be playing.

In news that is no longer a surprise, Vernon Davis is active. He told Ian Rapoport and others he was going to play tonight, although he did mention he was not at 100 percent. It will be interesting to see how the hamstring holds up, and also how the Rams defense approaches him. Do they follow him around with a safety to play it safe, or do they gamble that he is not sufficiently healthy, and keep an extra man down in the box? This could make or break the 49ers game plan tonight.

Finally, LaMichael James is active for the first time this season. We'll see what his involvement is like in the game plan tonight. His speed and athleticism could be a critical additional for an offense that really has been stuck in neutral much of the last two weeks.

49ers inactives: QB B.J. Daniels, WR Chris Harper, WR Marlon Moore, CB Nnamdi Asomugha, FB Owen Marecic, LB Patrick Willis, G Joe Looney.

Rams inactives: OT Rodger Saffold (knee), DE William Hayes (knee), G/C Barrett Jones, OG Brandon Washington, OT Mike Person, TE Mike McNeill, RB Isaiah Pead
