College Football Week 5 open thread: Georgia vs. LSU, Wisconsin Ohio State

We take a look at the college football schedule this week and what the big games are.

With all the west coast teams not playing until tonight, you can check out four games where both opponents are ranked.

The biggest matchup is LSU (4-0) at Georgia (2-1). The game will feature a number of NFL ready prospects on both teams. LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger is having a great season (1,026 yards, 10 TD, 1 INT), thanks in part to his junior receiving duo, Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry. If the Bulldogs are going to win this game they will need a big performance from their cornerback Damian Swann. Keeping the LSU high powered offense off the field would be a good idea also, and the Bulldogs have a running back who can eat away at the clock in Todd Gurley. He's only a sophomore, but already has a 6'1" 231 lb frame, with decent speed to go along with it. Gurley is averaging six yards per carry.

Oklahoma and Notre Dame square off again this year, this time in South Bend. Last season, the fighting Irish won at Oklahoma, in what was a very exciting game. Although both teams are ranked, I expect Oklahoma to win this one handily.

Wisconsin travels to Columbus to take on Ohio State, who are in the middle of the National Championship conversation. The player I want you to watch is Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon, who's putting up some insane stats. On just 53 carries, Gordon already has amassed 624 yards and 7 touchdowns. It looks like Gordon can do it all. He possesses great speed and he doesn't slow down much when he changes direction, Gordon reminds me of a speedier version of Lesean McCoy. It isn't all about making people miss though, as Gordon can also run between the tackles and pick up yards with power. If Ohio State loses, it'll be because of this running back.
