The San Francisco 49ers issued their first game release for the 2013 regular season, and aside from providing us with pertinent information about this week's matchup, it also provides us with a complete list of assigned uniform numbers. This is of note because we have a resolution for the question of who will wear No. 24.
Anthony Dixon and Nnamdi Asomugha both wore 24 in training camp. Nnamdi has worn the number every year of his NFL career recently (was No. 21 with the Raiders), while Anthony Dixon claimed the number after he beat out Michael Robinson for a roster spot. Dixon has also worn the number since his high school days.
And Anthony Dixon has retained No. 24! Nnamdi will wear No. 28 this season.
After wondering what kind of competition would determine the number, it turns out Nnamdi went straight to cash. According to Matt Maiocco, Nnamdi offered Dixon $24,000 to wear the number. Dixon was fine with him co-wearing it in camp and the preseason, but he decided to hold on to the jersey for another year.
