Colin Kaepernick shows true focus in his latest press conference

49ers QB Colin Kaepernick met with the media before practice on Wednesday. As the transcript shows, he is about as focused as is humanly possible. And it makes for a great read.

Colin Kaepernick met with the 49ers media on Wednesday, as he will do frequently this season. During the offseason, Kap will sometimes open up a little bit more, but when he is on the practice field, even during the offseason workout program, he is generally pretty focused on the task at hand.

For Wednesday's press conference, I don't know that he has ever been more focused. He was very succinct, and while it probably did not provide the media with a lot, it entertained me to no end. The highlight had to be a reporter asking Kap whether or not he was dating US Soccer player Sydney Leroux. I recommend checking out the video of it as well.

And really, I highly encourage you to read this entire transcript. It really should not take you all that long.

What was your feeling when you saw that this was the first game on the schedule after the way you guys ended their season a year ago?

"We're just worried about this game right now. We're not worried about what happened last year."

Does it give either team an edge, do you think, that you played each other in the playoffs or?

"No, you have to come out and play regardless."

How excited are you to finally get this underway?

"Happy to be back out there."

Coach Harbaugh was just saying he'll be in touch with the league and also the officials on Sunday just about hits on the quarterback and a quarterback who's a runner. What's your take on that and are you leaving that up to him?

"I'm not worried about that."

Was that ever an issue in college, with defenses trying to hit you after the fact on the read-option type plays?

"It's football, you're going to get hit."

And did that happen? Did your opponents tend to do that to you at Nevada?

"They've done just about everything."

This is your first season opener as the starting quarterback, what are your feelings going into this game?

"You have to win."

How different is it for you this time around going in with all you've achieved compared to a year ago with all the uncertainty about your future in this game?

"No different, you still have to go out and perform."

In terms of that, the league rule on that, do you talk with Harbaugh about it or when the officials were here, did you ask them to interpret it for you better?

"Coach asked for them to interpret it."

When you talk about your biggest hit in college, it was from former Missouri LB Sean Witherspoon. Was it off a read option or was it--?

"No."

What was it off of?

"Scramble."

Did you meet Packers LB Clay Matthews in the offseason?

"Yes."

What was going on? How did you meet him?

"We trained at the same facility over the summer."

You were shooting an ad down there?

"No, I was training down there."

When you look at Green Bay's defense on film, what stands out to you? What did that run do?

"They do a lot of things well. They have a lot of great players. We have to be ready."

Were you surprised how well you guys were able to execute that against them in the playoff game? At all?

"You're supposed to go out and perform as players. That's what you get paid to do."

From an X's and O's standpoint, do you think there's anything you haven't seen as far as what the defense can do to try to defend the types of plays that you really burned the Packers on last season?

"You can only line 11 people up so many ways. We've seen a lot of different looks."

On a personal note, there was a lady who scored four goals for team USA's soccer team last night, Sydney Leroux. There was a report that said you guys were dating.

"What's your question?"

My question is were you watching? Is she your girlfriend?

"Not my girlfriend. I didn't see the game. I was working."

Any thoughts on this being the last year at Candlestick?

"Have to end it right."

Your only loss your senior season was against Hawaii. What are memories of that game and I realize that was a while ago now, but does it still gnaw at you at all?

"Every loss does. We played bad."
