And that could very well be a game-changer. With 30 seconds left in the half, and the San Francisco 49ers circling the drain, the team found the one play that could give them a sign of life.
Colin Kaepernick stepped up into the pocket and threw an absolute dime, dropping the ball in to wide receiver Brandon Lloyd. The 49ers veteran receiver was able to catch the ball in stride after using a beautiful double move on St. Louis Rams cornerback Janoris Jenkins to get wide open behind him. Jenkins had a shot at a shoe string tackle, but at the end of the play, Lloyd used a perfect little leap to get the final five yards for a touchdown.
The touchdown cut the Rams lead to 14-10 heading into the half, with the 49ers getting the ball to start the second half. There is a lot of football left to be played, but it will be interesting to see how the 49ers come out of the locker after that huge play to close the first half.
