Fooch's update: Iupati is OUT with a concussion
The San Francisco 49ers are feeling the injury bug on Monday Night Football. Shortly after Patrick Willis departed with a toe injury, rookie safety Jimmie Ward has been ruled out with a quadricep injury. Left guard Mike Iupati also left with a head injury.
I am not entirely sure how Ward's injury occurred, but after spending time trying to walk out the injury, Ward was ruled questionable and then out. The departure of Ward has moved Chris Cook into the nickel lineup. Perrish Cox and Chris Culliver remaining the starting cornerbacks, but when the 49ers go to their nickel, Cook comes in outside, and Cox moves into the slot role. Culliver and Cook are traditionally outside cornerbacks, so it makes sense to move Cox into the slot corner position. Cox got run over by Jared Cook earlier in the game on a play called back due to penalty, but otherwise he is having a fairly solid game once again.
Iupati's departure will result in Joe Looney moving in at left guard. Iupati is questionable to return while he gets evaluated in the locker room.
