49ers win over Rams was not pretty, but we'll take it

New, comments

The San Francisco 49ers are on their way back to the Bay Area following Monday's win over the St. Louis Rams. The team improved to 4-2 with the victory, capped off by Dontae Johnson's pick six to secure it. It was not a pretty game, as the 49ers dropped behind 14-0. They bounced back with a 31-3 run, but even amidst that, the team suffered injuries that will likely impact them this coming weekend against the Denver Broncos.

It is a pain to deal with the injuries, but nonetheless, the 49ers walk away with a victory. In light of the Seahawks loss on Sunday, as well as Arizona continuing to truck along, it was an important win. The team has shown what kind of depth they have, particularly on defense.

They'll need every ounce of that depth when they travel to face Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. The Broncos are 6-point favorites in a game that will require a strong follow-up pass rush effort. The 49ers had their best pass rush performance of the season, with 5 sacks of Austin Davis. The secondary put up another big effort, and they will get to see where they stand against the best in the business.

We'll worry more about the challenges Denver presents in the coming days, but until then, I actually am looking forward to the matchup. I think the 49ers can win the game, but I would argue the 49ers are playing with house money heading into this game. We want the 49ers to win every game they can, but I don't think anybody outside of 49ers fans expects them to go in and bring home a W potentially without Patrick Willis in the lineup. Of course, backs against the wall, "use vs. the world" is how Jim Harbaugh likes it, so maybe he can do something with that.

The coaching staff faces a huge challenge on this short week, but I'm excited to see what they come up with between now and Sunday Night Football.

With The Win...

  • Head coach Jim Harbaugh improved his record to 40-13-1. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Harbaughbecame the seventh coach to have won at least 75 pct. of his games at time of 40th career win. The last to do so was George Seifert.

Pick Six For Johnson
