NFL power rankings, Week 7: All hail the Browns and Colts!

New, comments

I'm back for a little more scrutiny with my Week 7 NFL power rankings. After six games for most teams, who should be moved up or down?

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers took care of business on Monday Night Football, and with Week 6 now a wrap, it's time for more of Fooch's NFL power rankings. I'm sure plenty will disagree with most of what I put together, so feel free to fire away in the comments.

I bumped the 49ers up one spot with their win over the Rams. They struggled early, but dominated late. Given that the 49ers have struggled with inconsistency, I'm sure plenty will view No. 5 ranking as way too high. But I'm willing to give them a boost in part because of their wins over the Cowboys and Eagles. I think those two games showed the downside to the pair of 5-1 NFC East teams, but the wins are still strong for the 49ers. And given how tiebreakers could shake out, those two wins could prove huge.

The Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts got two of the biggest boosts of the week. I'm officially bought into this Browns squad. They'll lose plenty of games, but they are a dangerous squad. They destroyed the Steelers at home, and generally have done some good work. I could see arguments for moving them even further up, but middle of the pack seems like a decent spot for now.

The Colts almost blew a huge lead against the Houston Texans, but on the road they held on for the win. They are not the best team in the AFC, but they are going to be very dangerous in January. They've got some big games coming up, as they host the 3-1-1 Cincinnati Bengals, and then travel to face the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants before their bye.

The 49ers next opponent is the Denver Broncos. Following the Seahawks loss to the Cowboys, I have bumped the Broncos to the top of the rankings. You could make arguments for a handful of teams, but I just see the Broncos as slotted into that team to beat status right now. The Seahawks are not invincible at home, and face a tough road in their attempt to get back to the Super Bowl. It is no walk in the park for the Broncos, but I think they have a better shot of getting back than the Seahawks.
