Week 8 of the college football season is upon us and with it comes five matchups featuring ranked teams. The headliner is a top five showdown between two unranked teams as #5 Notre Dame visits #2 Florida State. With only six undefeated teams remaining, tonight’s game figures to weigh heavily in the national championship picture.
No. 21 Texas A&M @ No. 7 Alabama
The Aggies look win at ‘Bama for the second straight visit. It was Johnny Manziel in 2012 who shocked the Tide at home. ‘Bama hasn’t lost in Tuscaloosa since. All-world WR Amari Cooper will be first round pick in 2015. The only debate is where he’ll be selected. Depending on how the 49ers WR situation turns out Cooper would be an ideal target.
Keep an eye on A&M LG Jarvis Harrison. Coaches called Harrison their most athletic offensive lineman and the junior has started each year he’s been on campus. Interior lineman could be high on the 49ers draft radar with the impending free agency of Mike Iupati.
No. 4 Baylor @ West Virginia
If you like offense, you won’t want to miss this game. Baylor boasts the top offense in all of college football with over 600 yards a game. West Virginia’s offense is eighth in the country with over 550 yards per game. Combined they score over 80 points a game.
Ironically, the top NFL prospect in this game is on the defensive side of the ball. Baylor DE Shawn Oakman is a draftnik favorite and you’ll hear a ton about him leading up to the 2015 draft. He’s freakishly athletic and that’s at 6-8, 275lbs. Some previous off the field issues may come into play but he’ll likely end up as a first round pick.
No. 5 Notre Dame @ No. 2 Florida State
The Irish and Noles have had some famous battles over the years. Tonight’s game figures to add another great chapter in what has become a storied rivalry. The winner of tonight’s game will continue to control their own destiny in the college football playoff picture. The loser may be eliminated. Both teams are looking to prove they’re better than they’ve played in recent weeks.
Both teams have plenty of NFL talent on both sides of the ball. 49ers fans may want to keep any eye on the Seminole corner back duo, Ronald Darby and P.J. Williams. I think both possess first round talent with plus size and speed.
