Daniel Kilgore suffers leg/ankle injury, out for game

49ers center Daniel Kilgore suffered an injury to his lower leg on Sunday, and could miss extended time. We take a look at the in-game replacement, and possible future replacement in the coming weeks.

The San Francisco 49ers suffered a big loss in Week 7, as center Daniel Kilgore went down with an injury described as leg and ankle. A Broncos defender was rolled over the back of Kilgore's lower leg, and it resulted in an ugly injury. A cart was brought out, and the trainers put on an inflatable cast. We will find out more in the coming days, but the replay was ugly to watch.

Dillon Farrell took over at center to close out the game. Farrell is available for all five offensive line positions, but did a lot of work in college at center. Farrell is unlikely to retain the starting center job after the 49ers Week 8 bye. The team drafted Marcus Martin in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft, and he was viewed by many as their potential center of the future.

Martin suffered a knee injury late in the preseason, and it cost him the first two months of the regular season. He is back practicing in full, and it is safe to say Martin will get a lot of reps with Colin Kaepernick over the next two weeks. Jim Harbaugh will certainly get some questions about this after the game, and again tomorrow, but I don't expect an answer from him anytime soon on the center position.
