NFL picks against the spread, Week 8: Getting through the bye week with the SuperContest

The San Francisco 49ers are on a bye this week, so it is time to ponder the remaining games ont eh schedule. We take a look at at all the options, my picks for the LVH SuperContest, and my picks for the remaining games.

MGM Sports Book

Welcome back for another week of Fooch's picks! Three weeks ago, I put together a 5-0 week that vaulted me back into the mix of the LVH SuperContest. I followed that up with a 2-3 week, and seemed destined back to mediocrity. Fortunately, a 3-2 week last week has me feeling fairly decent again. I'm still a ways behind in the contest, but I at least have a little bit of positive momentum. I don't know my specific standing without counting down from the top, but I moved up a little bit this week.

For those that missed the previous explanation, I'm taking part in the LVH SuperContest, with OddsShark covering my entry fee. There are over 1,400 entries, and my goal from day one has been to finish closer to first place than last place. You can check out full standings here. The 3-2 week has me at 19-16 overall, and hanging on the right side of the middle of the pack! Heading into the season, my goal was to finish closer to first than last. I'm in decent position right now, and hopefully I can finish above .500 on the season.

Our San Francisco 49ers are on bye this week, so we don't have a 49ers game to worry about. They face the Rams after that, and we'll have a line for that game sometime on Sunday. A couple stats worth noting: The 49ers are 10-2-1 SU against the Rams in their last 13 games, but only 7-6 ATS in those games. Additionally, the 49ers are 2-7-1 straight up in their past ten seasons after the bye. Under Jim Harbaugh, they are 1-1-1. I'm not entirely sure what to make of that.

In terms of my SuperContest picks, I have a few early ones in mind. Patriots at home against the Bears is an intriguing one. I'm pondering Panthers as home dogs against a Seahawks team that is all over the place. I'm intrigued by the Jaguars as a 6-point home underdog to the Dolphins. I like the Saints at home against the Packers this week. Colts on the road could be fun. Washington is actually 6-1 ATS in their last seven at Dallas, but this year's Cowboys squad seems a little different. I'd take Dallas if I was picking this game, but I am probably just going to stay away from it.

Do any games jump out at you? Here are my picks for now.
