Week 6 of the college football schedule finally brings us a slate of ranked matchups and big games. Six of today’s matchups feature a battle between ranked teams. here are some games to watch:
No. 6 Texas A&M @ No. 12 Mississippi State
Mississippi State shocked the world two weeks ago when they knocked off LSU in Baton Rouge. Today they look to stake a claim to the top ten and maybe even the national title picture. I’m one that tends to believe that most of these teams in the SEC West (six ranked in the top 15) are given the benefit of the doubt because of the conference they play in. I do not believe all of these teams are deserving of top 15 rankings. Still, it’s clearly the best division in the best conference in college football.
Keep an eye on Texas A&M senior CB Deshazor Everett. Everett lines up all over the field for the Aggies and is capable of providing blanket coverage of a corner and the big hits of a safety. I like the Aggies in a close one.
No. 14 Stanford @ No. 9 Notre Dame
The golden domers are looking to continue their climb up the polls and they have the schedule to do it. A matchup at #1 Florida State in a couple of weeks looms large but Fighting Irish face a tough test today with Stanford.
ND senior CB Cody Riggs is another versatile DB with both corner and safety experience. A little undersized at just 5-9 but he plays much bigger. Irish win this one potentially setting up a top five match up with Florida State in two weeks.
No. 3 Alabama @ No. 11 Ole Miss
Ole Miss thinks they belong in the national title picture. Today, they’ll have to earn it against perennial SEC favorite Alabama. This isn’t the Bama team we’re used to of the last few years. They have some vulnerabilities, especially in the secondary. But they’re moving the ball with ease on offense, which should be scary to the rest of the nation.
Ole Miss is some major NFL talent that we’ll see over the next couple of years. Senior Free Safety Cody Prewitt is a true centerfielder on defense. He rarely lines up in man coverage allowing him to use his ball skills to diagnose the play, read the QB and react to the ball. He’ll be favoring the side of the field where Alabama WR Amari Cooper lines up. Should be a fun matchup but I think Bama proves to be too much. Tide roll.
Happy Saturday!
