The San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs released their Week 5 inactives, and in a pair of moves that are not surprising, Vernon Davis and Anthony Davis been declared inactive. Vernon injured his back last week when he took a hit. Anthony injured his knee when Colin Kaepernick was sacked into him. Neither practiced this week, so their deactivation is not a shock. The 49ers are winless when Vernon Davis is inactive, so we'll see how they bounce back from this injury.
Vance McDonald is back in the lineup, and he will be starting in place of Vernon Davis. This also means Derek Carrier should see some work. This likely means we see a sizable amount of extra wide receiver formations. The 49ers likely operate from a base 3-WR set, with one tight end, and a running back. I expect to see a decent amount of 4- and 5-WR sets once again.
49ers inactives: QB Josh Johnson, WR Quinton Patton, CB Tramaine Brock, C Marcus Martin, T Anthony Davis, TE Vernon Davis and DT Tank Carradine.
Chiefs inactives: QB Aaron Murray, S Eric Berry, OL Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, WR Donnie Avery, DE Damion Square, WR Albert Wilson, OL Eric Kush
