NFL power rankings, Week 6: 49ers creeping up...shocker

New, comments

I'm back for more scrutiny with my Week 6 NFL power rankings. After five games for most teams, who should be moved up or down?

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The fifth week of the 2014 NFL season is officially a wrap, so we are back with another round of Fooch's NFL power rankings. I'm sure plenty will disagree with my rankings, so feel free to fire away.

I bumped the San Francisco 49ers up a pair of spots from No. 8 to No. 6, following their win over the Kansas City Chiefs. When I moved them up, it seemed a bit high for a 3-2 team with a pair of close wins the last two weeks. However, the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs are not exactly the bottom of the barrel in the NFL. I could still be inflating the 49ers worth, but with all the losses ahead of them, it just seemed a good spot.

Two teams that some will consider further up are the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys. The 49ers have wins over those two, and a loss to the Arizona Cardinals, thus the reason I have the rankings as they are in the rankings. I do think the 49ers win on a neutral field, but with the one win in hand, Arizona retains their spot above the 49ers.

The 49ers next opponent is the St. Louis Rams. They mounted a furious comeback against the Eagles in Week 5, but came up short, losing 34-28. I bumped them up a couple spots. They showed some things late, but that move is also due to the New York Jets and Tennessee Titans just not impressing in the least.

Here are my Week 6 power rankings (Fooch's Note: updated to reflect Giants up to 18 not 23).
