The San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants each released their first practice participation reports for Week 11, and there is some notable news on the 49ers side of things. Tramaine Brock did not practice on Wednesday due to a hamstring injury, and Eric Branch is reporting Brock is expected to miss Sunday's game. Brock returned from a toe injury in Week 7, and then after sitting out Week 9, returned in Week 10. He played in a limited role on Sunday, but apparently he could not get away healthy. There is no word on how much longer the injury might last, but in the meantime, it means more sub-package playing time for Dontae Johnson.
Chris Borland was wearing a blue non-contact jersey in practice, as he is dealing with a shoulder issue. Considering how light the 49ers are at the inside linebacker position, I'd hope this is as much about being cautious as anything else. If he is limited through the week, I imagine we'll see him listed as questionable, but playing on Sunday. Right now, the 49ers inside linebackers include Borland, Michael Wilhoite and Nick Moody on the 53-man roster, and Shayne Skov on the practice squad. Other players could move inside in a pinch, but obviously that would be less than ideal.
One bit of good news was that Dan Skuta returned to practice. He was only limited, but that is an improvement over last week's DNPs. He has played some ILB in the past, so he could very well end up an emergency option inside if need be.
