Welcome back for another week of Fooch's picks! I think I am officially scuffling with my weekly SuperContest picks. I put together a blah 2-3 performance this past week, and I now stand at 29-26 on the season. I am right around the middle of the pack, and looking to figure out some way to get back on the winning track. For the SuperContest, I only pick five games. However, I also pick the other games for fun. On the season, I am 77-84 across the board. Good thing I'm not betting real money!
For those that missed the previous explanation, I'm taking part in the LVH SuperContest, with OddsShark covering my entry fee. There are over 1,400 entries, and my goal from day one has been to finish closer to first place than last place. You can check out full standings here. I'm stumbling along lately, so we'll see if I turn things around.
Right off the bat, I'm seriously considering taking the 49ers at home against Washington, even with the sizable 9.5-point spread. I suppose the 49ers could be caught looking ahead to Seattle, but Washington is really bad. If the 49ers cannot handle their business against Washington, it would be kind of embarrassing. Washington is 1-6 ATS in their last seven games, and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 road games. The 49ers are 4-2 ATS in their last six games, and 1-5 ATS in their last six home games. And yet, I still lean toward Washington.
Beyond that, I'm intrigued by the Broncos at home against Miami. The Dolphins are playing well, but I really like Denver at home. I thought about the Bills-Jets game, but the snow has me thinking the only good bet there is the under. I'm staying well away from Seattle-Arizona. Although the Seahawks are a strong home team, this year's Seahawks squad has enough question marks that I don't like them. And I'm not sure I'm comfortable taking Arizona up there.
A few other games that intrigue me for my SuperContest pick include the Titans against Mark Sanchez and company, the Bengals at Houston, the Chargers at home against the Rams, and even the Saints at home. They lost Brandin Cooks, but I think there are enough weapons to improve this time around.
