The San Francisco 49ers travel up the Bay this weekend to face the Oakland Raiders at O.Co Coliseum, and as expected, they are favorites. The sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com installed them as a touchdown favorite, with 5dimes.eu up to 7.5 points.
The 49ers are 7-5 on the season, but just 5-7 against the spread. The 49ers are 2-4 ATS in their last six games, but 11-3-2 ATS in their last 16 road games. The Raiders on the other hand are 1-11 this season, but actually 6-6 ATS. In their last ten home games, they are 2-8 ATS.
If the spread holds at or above a touchdown, this will mark the first time since December 2012 that the 49ers are road favorites by at least a touchdown. They have been road favorites four times this season, all ranging between 3- and 3.5-points. They were such favorites over the Giants, Rams, Cardinals and Cowboys. They went 3-1 ATS in those four games. Under Jim Harbaugh they are 2-1 ATS as 7+ point road favorites.
None of this is meant to be predictive of anything when the 49ers and Raiders square off this weekend. I don't expect the 49ers to replicate the Rams effort and put up a monster number. The Raiders are not remotely good, but the 49ers offense has not exactly wow'd us this season. I do think the 49ers can cover this spread, and I'll probably take them in the SuperContest if the line remains under ten points. And if the 49ers cannot win this game by double digits, well, they will be who we are starting to think they are.
