Golden Nuggets: There's Always Good In The Bad

Wednesday, December 17th, 2014 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from the Internet

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Niners have 2 more games until the end of their 2014 season. The season started off with high expectations and ended with disappointment. It was always going to be difficult to replicate the success they enjoyed the last 3 years. The Niners play in the hardest division in football. Bad play, coaching, and injuries derailed the season. With the season coming to an end, I look back at the good of the season.

The biggest lesson we learned this season is that Vic Fangio is a defensive genius. Most teams suffering the amount of injuries the Niners faced on defense would have seen a massive drop in production. The Niners, on the other hand, didn't miss a beat. Three of the top defensive players of the league were out and the Niners found pieces to make it work. Chris Borland became a household name and a tackling machine. Aaron Lynch showed the ability to pressure the quarterback and a potential tandem with Aldon Smith on the other side. This should be exciting to see for the next couple seasons.

There was not much good on the offensive side of the ball. The best might be the emergence of Carlos Hyde. A power RB in the mold similiar to Frank Gore. To most draft analysts, Carlos was a steal in the draft at the spot he was taken. He had a few good runs this season and he was having a good game in Seattle until an injury took him out. With Frank on the other side of 30, Hyde looks like an able replacement to our legend. Hopefully the offense gets fixed this offseason because they may have found their next stud running back.
