The San Francisco 49ers and San Diego Chargers released their Thursday practice participation reports, and the 49ers continue to deal with numerous injuries. Chris Borland, Tramaine Brock, Carlos Hyde, Stevie Johnson and Jonathan Martin all sat out Thursday's practice session. Martin had an illness and should be fine for Saturday, but the other four are likely to sit this weekend.
Coaches and players have repeatedly said they are playing to win these last two games, but one has to wonder how many starters will sit out the game. Aside from the four mentioned above, Ahmad Brooks is dealing with a thumb injury that could cost him the game. He sat out Wednesday's practice, and was limited on Thursday. Of the limited and full players, it seems like he would be the most likely to sit on Saturday. I think we see that as a game-time decision. Anthony Davis and Frank Gore are both working through the concussion protocol, but have been spotted in blue non-contact jerseys at one point or another this week. They remain question marks.
On the Chargers side of things, Philip Rivers is dealing with a chest injury that has been reported off and on to be fairly serious. Rivers was a full participant on Thursday, after sitting out Wednesday, and said there is no doubt he will play on Saturday.
