New, comments

The San Francisco 49ers host the San Diego Chargers in Week 16, playing out the string following their loss to the Seahawks. The 49ers are a one-point favorite, and look to see if they can find some positives over the last two weks. We've got all the nuts and bolts for the game, as well as an open thread for discussion.

The San Francisco 49ers host the San Diego Chargers in a Week 16 matchup that holds little meaning for the 49ers. The 49ers can play spoiler for the Chargers playoff hopes, and the team can also improve its own draft position with a loss. Other than that, it almost has a preseason feel to it.

The game kicks off at Levi's Stadium at 5:25 p.m. PT on CBS, and will feature national coverage. I'm pretty sure the NFL and CBS figured the 49ers would be in the thick of things when they decided to include them in their Week 16 Saturday doubleheader. Instead, the 49ers are playing out the string. It has a chance to be an entertaining game, but that is also predicated in part on the 49ers figuring something out with their consistently struggling offense. There is no reason to think we'll see improvements, but maybe they'll surprise us!

49ers inactives: QB Josh Johnson, WR Stevie Johnson, CB Tramaine Brock, RB Carlos Hyde, LB Ahmad Brooks, G Andrew Tiller and G Joe Looney.

Chargers inactives: RB Ryan Mathews, WR Keenan Allen, P Mike Scifres, DT Damion Square, CB Greg Ducre, NT Ryan Carrethers, OLB Cordarro Law

We'll have plenty to break down after the game, but for now, here's your first game thread, as well as a rundown of pertinent information related to the game.
