San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore has reached another milestone in his legendary career. The ten-year running back has passed 1,000 rushing yards for fourth straight season, and the eighth time in his NFL career. Gore ran a carry for 20 yards to get past the mark.
In moving past 1,000 yards, Gore has moved past Warrick Dunn on the all-time rushing leaderboard. Gore now has 10,988 yards, and next on the all-time rushing leaderboard is O.J. Simpson. Here are how the next few running backs line up:
Fooch's Note: Gore surpassed 11,000 yards for his career on a subsequent run.
19. O.J. Simpson - 11,236
18. Corey Dillon - 11,241
17. John Riggins - 11,352
16. Steven Jackson - 11,388
15. Fred Taylor - 11,695
Gore's future remains unsettled for the first time in a long time. He is a free agent for the first time in his NFL career. Gore and 49ers GM Trent Baalke have both stated they want Gore back in 2015. However, this is a business, and there are no guarantees about Gore's future. Gore has said he is willing to compete for playing time, so we could very well see him and Carlos Hyde doing battle in training camp. Of course, there is also money to be figured out, so we'll have to wait and see how this plays out.
