The circus that has been the San Francisco 49ers 2014 season has officially entered the final act. Jed York announced on Sunday that he and Jim Harbaugh had agreed to part ways, opening the door for the search process.
The search will feature plenty of speculation and intrigue, but first we get the big media show. The 49ers announced that York and GM Trent Baalke will meet with the media at 1 p.m. PT on Monday. You can watch video above, or check 49ers.com/live if this doesn't work.
This comes a day after York seemed to blow off local media while conducting interviews with national media. My guess now is that he just preferred waiting until today's press conference, but even still, local media were not pleased. I don't know that it will influence questions for York and Baalke, but it would be interesting to see this thing get a little feisty.
I don't expect anything of significant to come from this press conference. York could surprise us, but I fully expect some bland cliches. My guess is he says something about Jim wanting to pursue this opportunity and the 49ers wanted to let him do that. I think we hear York spin this into some sort of magnanimous gesture, but hopefully everyone knows that won't actually be true. But let's see what York has to say about this.
