The San Francisco 49ers head back on the "road" this Sunday as they face the Oakland Raiders at O.Co Coliseum. The game will be on FOX, and will kick off at 1:25 p.m. PT. We'll have plenty more on the television schedule for the game today or tomorrow, but in the meantime, it's time for a look at the matchup between the Bay Area rivals.
Phil Barber ran some interesting numbers about the records of these two teams, and it is kind of interesting:
In 12 previous meetings btwn #49ers & #Raiders, biggest disparity in records: 4 games (OAK 5-4, SF 1-8 in 1979). Sunday it will be 6 games.— Phil Barber (@Skinny_Post) December 2, 2014
Since 1980, #49ers' & #Raiders' records haven't been separated by more than two games when they played. Until now: SF 7-5, OAK 1-11.— Phil Barber (@Skinny_Post) December 2, 2014
Also, this is the first time #49ers and #Raiders have ever played w/ SF having a winning record and OAK a losing record.— Phil Barber (@Skinny_Post) December 2, 2014
Given that these teams only face each other in the regular season once every four years, this does not exactly hold a lot of value. But I am kind of fascinated by that last tweet. Lately the 49ers have been up and the Raiders have been down, but it is interesting that this is the first time they have squared off in such a setting.
