Ahmad Brooks benched for 49ers-Raiders game due to missed team meeting

The San Francisco 49ers benched Ahmad Brooks to start their Week 14 matchup with the Oakland Raiders. We break down the details.

The San Francisco 49ers made a curious decision to insert Dan Skuta into the starting lineup against the Oakland Raiders, but we now have an answer. FOX play-by-play man Chris Myers stated that Ahmad Brooks was benched because he missed a team meeting. Myers did not go into any further detail.

It does not appear Brooks has played a single snap through the first half, and there is no word on how long this benching is expected to last. Brooks has been seen on the sideline standing next to linebackers coach Jim Leavitt. A few weeks back, Brooks was benched for yelling at defensive line coach Jim Tomsula. He spent the rest of that game on the bench. He apologized to Tomsula for that incident, and his decision to stand next to Leavitt would seem to indicate he is hoping to get into the game at some point.

Jim Harbaugh will meet with the media immediately after the game, and I imagine he will get a question about this situation. I don't expect much in the way of an answer, but in the meantime, we'll keep an eye out to see if he gets a defensive snap today.
