Free Agency is expensive. It's funny to say that considering the word free in there, but we are clearly referring to the other meaning of the word. With the salary cap getting a healthy boost this season, more teams will look to take advantage and there will be an increase in the amounts FA players are offered this year. The sharks are already in the water.
In a matter of two seasons, the 49ers could have a 100% turnover in their starting secondary. Dashon Goldson was the first casualty of the free market system, and it looks highly probably that Donte Whitner and Tarell Brown will follow him out the door. Trent Baalke has been solid in the stance of not overbidding for anyone including his own players, and if bidding for the two defensive backs get crazy, we fully expect Trent to say goodbye. Carlos Rogers is also expected to be gone, considering he eats up a lot of cap room this upcoming season.
This upcoming season, only Eric Reid and Tramaine Brock are locks for the secondary. It's too early to tell which way the wind will blow, so we just have to be patient and trust that Baalke will continue to deliver as he has done in the past.
