Darrelle Revis reaches agreement with New England Patriots, per Adam Schefter

The New England Patriots made the latest splashy move in free agency, signing the recently released Darrelle Revis. Sorry, 49ers fans.

Fooch's Update #2: Most seem to presume the deal is going to get done, even if it's not technically done yet.

Fooch's Update #1: Revis' business manager saying a deal not done yet:

Well, you can remove Darrelle Revis from your fantasy list. The New England Patriots waited for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to release Revis, and quickly pounced. A day after losing Aqib Talib to the Denver Broncos, Adam Schefter is reporting the Patriots have signed Revis to a 1-year, $12 million contract.

When word was getting out that Revis was going to be released, the Patriots were mentioned by most as the favorite. The New York Jets reportedly were trying to get in the mix, but Revis did not wait around. He now goes to a win team where he has a chance to advance in the playoffs, and he still makes some solid coin.

While a one year rental of Darrelle Revis would have been nice, the 49ers did not have the room to make this kind of deal happen. They do not get the Carlos Rogers cap relief until June 1, and with the Tuesday signings, an eight-figure deal was simply not going to happen. The upside to him signing with somebody is this won't drag out into some ridiculous "Revis Watch", and we can all get on with our lives.
