Golden Nuggets: The Need for Speed

Wednesday, March 19, 2014 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from around the Internet.

Just when we thought the Niners were done with free agency and were willing to wait for the draft to fill out the rest of the roster, we hear the news that the Niners reached out to the Philadelphia Eagles to inquire about the possibility of trading for DeSean Jackson. Wow! It's no secret that the Niners lack the speed at the receiver position to keep teams honest. To get Jackson would be exactly the speed demon that the Niners lack. It would force defenses to be aware of the deep ball and open up the middle of the field for players like Crabtree and Boldin to exploit.

If Trent Baalke could make this happen with Jackson's contract and only trading away draft picks, I think he would jump on this opportunity. We have a lot of draft picks and it fills a need the Niners have with a proven receiver and a dangerous punt returner. This team is only a couple pieces away from winning a Super Bowl and Jackson fits one of those pieces. Baalke will not jeopardize the upcoming contract negotiations with Kap and Aldon Smith to get DeSean, but for the right deal it would be the perfect fit for the team.
