2014 NFL mock draft: Niners Nation Mock Draft 2.0 looks at cornerbacks

With the big names all signed in free agency, we try our best to guess what will happen in the first round of the draft.

We're nearing the end of March, which means free agency started over a week ago, pro days are well underway, and prospect stocks have changed. Nick Chiamardas and I are back again to take a crack at the ol' mock draft.

Trevor's Note

At the top of the draft I have each of the top three teams taking the best player available, bolstering their rosters opposed to going for a higher need. I have NFC West rivals getting much stronger on offense, with the Rams snagging Sammy Watkins and the Cardinals grabbing Eric Ebron. I'm sticking with Kyle Fuller as the 49ers choice for now, but a wide receiver would not surprise me here. The 49ers were linked to Julian Edelman, Emmanuel Sanders, and Hakeem Nicks. It would appear the 49ers are still interested in adding a quality option in the receiving corps. With such a deep draft I see the 49ers waiting until the second until drafting a wideout.

Also, with the news of Matt Schaub being sent to the Raiders that could change their pick of Johnny Manziel. I still think the Raiders will go for a quarterback in the first, as Schaub isn't a long term option and was traded for because of the Raiders good cap situation. One thing is for sure, when you're talking about the Oakland Raiders, nothing is predictable.

Nick's Note

Now that the rush of free agency has died down and more rumors have surfaced surrounding who's interested in who, there are quite a few changes in my second mock draft. When it comes to NFL draft rumors it's hard to believe all the things you hear. But we've learned over the years that typically where there's smoke there's fire. New Texans coach BIll O'Brien appears to have a major draft crush on Blake Bortles and while I personally may not agree, it appears the Texans may be leaning towards Bortles with the first pick.

As for the 49ers, after replacing Donte Whitner with Antoine Bethea, it appears their first round options have been narrowed to cornerback and wide receiver. Jason Verrett is worthy of a mid-first round pick but he just announced he had surgery on a torn labrum which could cause a tiny slide…to the benefit of the 49ers, of course. By the way, Verrett put up 19 reps (225lbs) on the bench press…with a torn labrum. You know Harbaugh loves that!
