NFL free agency news: Carlos Rogers signs with Raiders, Kenny Britt signs with Rams

The latest small wave of free agency signings has some familiar faces joining 49ers opponents. We break down the latest news.

After a bit of a lull in free agency, Monday saw a couple late afternoon transactions affecting 49ers opponents. The Oakland Raiders announced they signed former 49ers cornerback Carlos Rogers, and the St. Louis Rams signed wide receiver Kenny Britt and quarterback Shaun Hill.

The Raiders have now signed the 49ers two most prominent cornerbacks to shore up what had been a very questionable secondary. Rogers and Tarell Brown will compete with D.J. Hayden for playing time. The Raiders likely will add more talent, particularly given that Rogers and Brown are not looking like long term answers, for now. But no matter when the 49ers and Raiders meet in 2014, I suspect we'll see both cornerbacks in the starting lineup.

The Rams addition of Britt gives them a potential No. 1 receiver. Britt has struggled staying healthy and performing with consistency, but he is still incredibly talented. If he can get on track, this could end up being a pretty big signing for the Rams. Of course, the question then is who will be throwing to him. I don't expect Hill to claim Bradford's job in August, but Bradford has struggled at times to stay healthy. If he gets hurt, Hill could easily swoop in for them. I'd say the odds are pretty decent that Hill ends up making a start against the 49ers this coming season.
