We wrap up the first week of pro days today with Arizona State, Arkansas State, Northern Illinois, Ohio State, Pitsburg State (Kansas), South Alabama, Southern Miss, and Wofford.
Arizona State DT Will Sutton is the two time defending Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year. Initially thought to be a top-10 candidate, Sutton's stock is quickly falling after an unimpressive Senior Bowl and even worse performance at last month's combine. Sutton appeared to be overweight and out of shape at the Senior Bowl and did manage to drop a few pounds before the combine. It didn't help much as he was consistently at the bottom of his workouts. A good showing today could stop the bleeding and get the arrow pointing back in the right direction. At this point, he's a day two pick.
One of my favorite prospects in this draft is Northern Illinois safety Jimmie Ward. While small in stature at just 5'11, 193lbs, Ward may be the most technically sound safety in the draft. He makes an impact in run support and has a knack for locating the ball and making plays in the passing game. Ward didn't participate at the combine so today's pro day will be watched closely by those teams eyeing a safety in the first two rounds.
Entering the 2013 season, many thought Bradley Roby from Ohio State would be the first corner off the board. After struggling with consistency throughout the season, the redshirt junior saw his stock begin to fall. At last month's combine, however, Roby was able to turn things around. He ran a 4.39-forty, benched 17 reps, and turned in an excellent 38.5" vertical. He also looked really smooth in the drills with his back pedal and ability to switch his hips and change direction. He'll need to work on this technique and prove he can matchup with physical wide outs. Chris Biderman reported on Twitter that 49ers regional scout Scott Brown will be attending the Ohio State pro day today.
I'm told #49ers regional scout Scott Brown is attending Ohio State's pro day today.
