Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat writer Greg Auman is reporting the San Francisco 49ers will host Boston College offensive lineman Matt Patchan on Monday. Patchan told Auman he already visited with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
This is the fourth "official visit" of which we have been made aware. Thus far, the 49ers are set to host UCF running back Storm Johnson, Oklahoma cornerback Aaron Colvin, and Georgia State wide receiver Albert Wilson. The team is allowed 30 visits, which does not include hosting local school kids. The team will also have a local Pro Day, in which kids from Bay Area colleges, and also some who went to high school in the Bay Area, will be able to work out for the team.
The 49ers have a lot of options at offensive line heading into 2014, but it makes sense for them to add another body or two. I don't expect a high draft pick, but rather, look for the team to maybe add someone toward the end of Day 3, and then one or two undrafted free agents. As it currently stands, the 49ers depth along the line includes Adam Snyder, Jonathan Martin, Luke Marquardt, Carter Bykowski, Joe Looney, Ryan Seymour and Al Netter. Patchan is projected as a later Day 3 pick, and it seems even a potential undrafted free agent. The 49ers will probably carry one or two offensive linemen on the practice squad, so this could be a chance to talk with one such candidate.
In the meantime, here's a quick rundown of some of Johnson's pertinent measurements from the Combine and his Pro Day:
Height: 6'6"
Weight: 302 lbs
Arm length: 33"
40-time: 4.97
Bench Press: 22
Vertical: 33 1/2"
Broad (Pro Day): 9'05"
20-yard shuttle (Pro Day): 4.63
3-cone drill (Pro Day): 7.45
