The San Francisco 49ers have until April 27 to host their 30 official NFL Draft visits. They're allowed more than that for local kids, but for bringing in kids from out of town, 30 is the max. There is no word if the team has conducted any "official" visits to date, but we do know of a few starting on Monday.
Clemson wide receiver Martavis Bryant (story), Georgia State wide receiver Albert Wilson (story), Central Florida running back Storm Johnson (story), and Boston College offensive lineman Matt Patchan (story) are all expected in town later today. Aaron Colvin is due for a visit, and according to Matt Barrows, it will happen later this week.
Fooch's Update: Matt Barrows is reporting the 49ers will also welcome Louisville linebacker Preston Brown on Monday.
The 49ers will invite a variety of players to Santa Clara, but obviously they will not be drafting all of them. It will be interesting to see if any quarterbacks come to town. Jim Harbaugh traveled to Illinois to throw the ball around with Eastern Illinois quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. He was also at the Virginia Tech Pro Day, where he potentially had a chance to visit with their quarterback Logan Thomas (among others). My guess is aside from some local guys, we don't hear about many quarterback visits to the Bay Area.
Back in February when the Combine was approaching, we took a look at players the 49ers had reportedly met with at various All Star games. The list included:
Xavius Boyd, LB, Western Kentucky (Shrine Game)
Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, OT, McGill (Shrine Game)
C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, Iowa (Senior Bowl)
Ra'Shede Hageman, DL, Minnesota (Senior Bowl)
Gator Hoskins, TE, Marshall (Senior Bowl)
Stanley Jean-Baptiste, DB, Nebraska (Senior Bowl)
Cassius Marsh, DL, UCLA (Shrine Game)
Jeff Mathews, QB, Cornell (Shrine Game)
Demonte McAllister, DL, Florida State (Shrine Game)
Jack Mewhort, OL, Ohio State (Senior Bowl)
Matt Patchan, OL, Boston College (Senior Bowl)
Shaquille Richardson, CB, Arizona (Shrine Game)
Charles Sims, RB, West Virginia (Senior Bowl)
Marcus Smith, LB, Louisville (Senior Bowl)
The team met with various players at the Combine, and has also been meeting with players at Pro Days. Among others, that includes:
Odell Beckham, Jr., WR, LSU
Taylor Hart, DL, Oregon
Brandin Cooks, WR, Oregon State
Jarod Brown, K, Old Dominion
Bashaud Breeland, CB, Clemson
Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M
I'm going to put together a more comprehensive run down of visits and meetings so we have a better idea heading into the draft. I'll try and get that in the next day or two, with pertinent links so you have a better idea of everything. More to come!
