2014 NN community mock draft: With the 2nd pick, the St. Louis Rams select ...

The 2014 Niners Nation NFL mock draft is off and running. We move on to the St. Louis Rams, courtesy of user El Shorts.

We're back for the second pick of the 2014 Niners Nation Community Mock Draft. We got going this morning, with the Houston Texans selecting South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. We're back now for pick No. 2, which comes courtesy of El Shorts. We'll update the mock draft board in each post as a new pick comes in, but you can also follow the mock draft board through this story stream.

With the second pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, El Shorts and the St. Louis Rams select Greg Robinson, offensive tackle, Auburn. Some alternates he considered with the pick include Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins, Buffalo outside linebacker Khalil Mack, and Texas A&M offensive tackle Jake Matthews. Here are his thoughts on the pick:

I recently asked Turf Show Times about their opinion of who they would draft with the pick, and it boiled down to Jadeveon Clowney or Greg Robinson. With Clowney gone, the choice is fairly simple. The main needs of the St. Louis Rams are OL, S, WR, and CB. I believe that top talents at S, WR, and CB will be available at pick No. 13, while Robinson will be picked very high. Robinson is the top ranked OT that is an "Outstanding run blocker with the strength and power to wash down half of the line," according to NFL.com. He'll most likely plug into the LG position of the Rams' O-line.

Trevor Woods: Phew, the Rams didn't grab Watkins! The choice of Robinson makes sense, it fills a need in which will help protect the often injured Sam Bradford. I could also see the alternatives of Mack and Matthews here, whom El Shorts mentioned. Thanks a lot Redskins, for giving the Rams such a good pick.

Nick Chiamardas: Robinson is number one on my board and he fits perfectly with St. Louis. The Rams may be able to trade down a few picks and still select Robinson as there are not as many teams atop the draft with major needs at LT like in years past. Robinson is one of the best LT prospects in recent memory and figures to be a staple along the line he occupies for years to come.
