2014 NN community mock draft: With the 3rd pick, the Jacksonville Jaguars select ...

The 2014 Niners Nation NFL mock draft is off and running. We move on to the Jacksonville Jaguars, courtesy of user 9er4life22.

We're back for the third pick of the 2014 Niners Nation Community Mock Draft. We got going earlier today, with the Houston Texans selecting South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, and the St. Louis Rams selecting Auburn offensive tackle Greg Robinson. We're back now for pick No. 3, which comes courtesy of 9er4life22. We'll update the mock draft board in each post as a new pick comes in, but you can also follow the mock draft board through this story stream.

With the third pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, 9er4life22 and the Jacksonville Jaguars select Teddy Bridgewater, quarterback, Louisville. Here is a quick rundown of the alternates he considered:

Manziel/Bortles/Carr - The other best QBs in the draft.

Kahlil Mack - Best edge rusher available. Even with Chris Clemons signed, an edge rusher is still a need. Besides, Clemons is a declining DE coming back from a major injury while he's in his 30's. Who knows what he'll do.

Sammy Watkins - Justin Blackmon was suspended indefinitely and Cecil Shorts is not a number one receiver

Here are his thoughts on the pick:

Really went back and forth on this. I almost had them reaching for Khalil Mack. That said, the Jaguars get the best QB in the draft at pick number 3, so they take him. Although GM David Caldwell has stated in the past that he is content with QB Chad Henne, he's obviously not a long term option and this may be a smokescreen anyway. In the real draft I think a QB may be off the board and the Jags could trade back (or up for Clowney), but if this is how it plays out then they get the best QB in the draft. He played in a pro-ready offense and played smart, good football. He seems like a good QB with no significant weaknesses and should be a good pick.

Trevor Woods: Bridgewater is my number one quarterback in this years class, so him going off the board first at the position I agree with. With that said, the Jaguars aren't going to be good this year and it might be wiser to roll with Henne for this season and give him some help by drafting Sammy Watkins. If they want to field a better offense this year I'd go with Watkins. The good news for the Jaguars here is it is a deep receiving class, and drafting Bridgewater here gives the Jags their starter of the future and they should still be able to snag a quality receiver in round two.

Nick Chiamardas: I get the impression Jacksonville doesn't want to draft a QB with this pick. However, with Clowney off the board it's QB or Mack as 9er4life22 points out. Bridgewater's ceiling is too high to pass on and he's the most NFL ready of all the first round QBs. That said, Jacksonville would probably love to trade out of this pick if possible.
