2014 NN community mock draft: With the 11th pick, the Tennessee Titans select ...

We're back for the eleventh pick of the 2014 Niners Nation Community Mock Draft. You can see previous picks below in the draft table. You can also follow the mock draft board through this story stream.

With the eleventh pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, germinator and the Tennessee Titans select Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State. Some of the alternates he considered included:

Derek Carr or Johnny Manziel, QB - Jake Locker has had a tough time staying upright and may not be the franchise QB to take the Titans to the next level, so many think they may surprise and grab a QB in the 1st, but with too many holes elsewhere, grabbing a QB to provide competition and depth will have to come later

Darqueze Dennard, CB - See description below for why a corner is needed, Dennard seems to be the safer choice but Gilbert has more upside

CJ Mosely, LB - Titans have an awfully weak LB corp, especially on the inside. He will provide an instant upgrade and start from day 1 on the inside, but unless they think he will turn into a truly elite difference maker (like the two on the Niners roster), ILB just isn't worth a top 11 pick anymore - much like RB, ILB has been deeply discounted lately outside rare cases

Taylor Lewan, OT - arguably the top talent available as he has the ability to be a franchise tackle, he also has some concerns that come with his ideal measurables and build, which primarily stem from character concerns/ongoing legal issues

Here are his thoughts on the pick:

With Detroit taking Barr the pick prior, this choice becomes tricky. Tennessee is desperately hurting for a pass rusher on the outside of their newly-implemented 3-4 defense. A vast majority of mocks I've come across actually have these two picks reversed, with Detroit taking Gilbert and Barr being selected by the Titans. In this situation, however, Tennessee is left without an outside pass rusher worthy of #11 overall and has to address another big need on the defensive end.

Tennessee's pass defense was actually pretty good most of the time last year, but they lost Verner in free agency and did not pick up anyone who could take his place. Although this is considered to be a deep draft for corners, I don't foresee them using that as an excuse to pass on (arguably) the top corner in the draft at number 11. Gilbert has the size and athleticism to be a true difference maker and the sky is the limit to his potential - he could truly become one of the few elite corners in the game today. Whether he can realize that potential or not, however, is the question.

Trevor Woods: The signing of Michael Oher lessens the need for Lewan here, and I see Gilbert or Mosley as the logical choices. Someone needs to replace Verner and Gilbert would be a fine option that would bring some needed physicality to their defense. Gilbert is my number one cornerback in this draft and the Titans just got them a good football player.

Nick Chiamardas: The Titans have a few needs on defense including edge pass rusher but with Anthony Barr now off the board turning to cornerback isn't a bad idea. In Gilbert, the Titans get one of, if not the top corner in the draft. Gilbert has tremendous speed to go with his prototypical size. Still a bit raw in technique, Gilbert could step in right away and start from day one.
