2014 NN community mock draft: With the 17th pick, the Baltimore Ravens select ...

The 2014 Niners Nation NFL mock draft is off and running. We move on to the Baltimore Ravens, courtesy of user JMichael39.

We're back for the 17th pick of the 2014 Niners Nation Community Mock Draft. You can see previous picks below in the draft table. You can also follow the mock draft board through this story stream.

With the 17th pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, JMichael39 and the Baltimore Ravens select Darqueze Dennard, CB, Michigan State. Here are his thoughts on the pick:

The top four needs for Baltimore are ILB, CB, ROT and RB. The top three ROT went early in the draft and the next level of ROTs are rated mid-second rounders. RB is not a top position in this draft. Though there are several late day two quality RBs on the board. That leaves ILB and CB. ILB would have been my first choice in the first round simply because Mosely was really the only first round quality ILB. With Pittsburgh taking him at 15, that leaves me with CB. Fortunately, only one of the first round quality CBs are off the board (Gilbert). So my choice came down to either Dennard or Fuller. I don't think Verrett fits our style of defense.  I could have also taken a fly on a WR if both Fuller and Dennard were gone at 17. In that particular case, I'd have been tossed between Beckham and Lee, most likely taking Lee.

Trevor Woods: Dennard would fit the Ravens scheme, but they really don't need a cornerback here, as they have two good starting corner in Jimmy Smith and Ladarius Webb. What the Ravens do need is help Joe Flacco out some more. They did sign Steve Smith, who will be a nice compliment to Torrey Smith, but he isn't a long term answer at the position. Brandin Cooks and Odell Beckham Jr. are both still on the board, and I see them as more likely choices at pick 17.

Nick Chiamardas: The Ravens are in a good situation. Despite the salary cap strugges created by the mega deal given to Joe Flacco, GM Ozzie Newsome has managed to put together a respectable roster and finds himself without any glaring needs to fill on draft day. This should make them prime trade partners for teams looking to move up into the middle of round one. They will likely look to add a tackle and a safety at some point and with both T Zack Martin and S Cavin Pryor on the board it'd be tough to pass on either. But Dennard is arguably one of the top two corners in this class and would give the Ravens some flexibility in the secondary with three solid corners in Dennard, Jimmy Smith and recently extended Ladarius Webb.
