The San Francisco 49ers pre-draft process continues to develop, and while the team keeps things fairly tight-lipped, a few tidbits leak here and there. The latest rumor involves Clemons cornerback Bashaud Breeland.
Several sources tell me heavy interest in Bashaud Breeland/CB/Clemson from SF 49ers-had dinner w/Trent Baalke after pro-day; 2nd rnd target?

The Clemson Pro Day was back on March 6. The 49ers have done plenty of due diligence in the meantime. A dinner would seem to demonstrate some measure of interest, but if the 49ers don't draft him next month, who knows how much interest they actually ended up having. If the 49ers trade up for Sammy Watkins, we'll know they were obviously talking with Breeland about the wide receiver!
But seriously...Breeland is showing up as a potential second or third round pick. Mocking The Draft ranks him No. 9 among cornerbacks, CBS Sports ranks him No. 10, and ESPN ranks him No. 8. At the NFL Combine, measured in at 5'11, 197 pounds, with 31 3/4" arm length (No. 11 among cornerbacks).
Here's what Dane Brugler had to say about Breeland:
He is a good-sized athlete who uses his length and aggressive nature well in coverage to blanket and get his hands on the ball, but he tends to be too physical at times and will draw penalties. Breeland ... played mostly off-man in college with good anticipation and eye use to break on the ball, but he lacks elite speed or quick-twitch movements and found himself in trouble when biting on fakes or hesitating for a moment. He is a willing run defender, but needs to be more reliable in this area and do a better job finishing tackles. Breeland needs technique work and time to develop, but his raw cover skills and size project him as an eventual starter.
Here's some post-game video of Breeland at a press conference earlier this past season.
