We're back for the 36th pick of the 2014 Niners Nation Community Mock Draft. You can see previous picks below in the draft table. You can also follow the mock draft board through this story stream.

With the 36th pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, Mark Balliett and the Oakland Raiders select Kyle Van Noy, OLB, BYU. He also considered Minnesota defensive tackle Ra'Shede Hageman, Florida State defensive back Lamarcus Joyner, and Lindenwood cornerback Pierre Desir. Here are his thoughts on the pick:

After drafting the BPI at No. 5 with the selection of Mike Evans, I ultimately went with the same rationale for this draft pick. Being a rSR, Van Noy is a very safe and solid pick at the top of the 2nd round. He actually reminds me a lot of one of my favorite LB's in the league -- Ahmad Brooks. Van Noy, like Brooks, is excellent at both sealing the edge and rushing the passer. In addition to these skills, he's also the best OLB in pass coverage in the draft and would be an excellent addition to the Raiders already solid LB core. Van Noy is extremely disciplined as a football player and rarely leaves his assignment.

I've seen multiple times on tape when the opposing team tried end arounds and Van Noy kept his assignment and was in position to make a play when it came back around. Van Noy's instincts are solid as he had 5 defensive TDs at BYU and always seems to be around the ball. Van Noy definitely won't "WOW" you on tape (similar to how Brooks won't) but fans of the team he gets selected to will definitely understand and appreciate the significance of what he does. When it's all said and done, I wouldn't be surprised if Van Noy has a better career than either Mack or Barr.

Nick Chiamardas: I'm not completely sold on Van Noy's ability to pressure the QB in the NFL so I like that he'd be going to a team that will use him as a 4-3 linebacker. Still, I'm not sure there's much of a 'need' here for the Raiders to take the 'tweener' LB who may struggle to find a position. With prospects such as Jimmie Ward, Lamarcus Joyner, and Jace Amaro who can come in and contribute right away still on the board I'm not the biggest fan of this selection.
