Golden Nuggets: Draft Day Strategy

Wednesday, April 9, 2014 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from around the Internet.

The Niners seem to have the most straightforward early draft strategy this year. This is what happens when the team has no major holes in the team. Looking at the ideal draft situation for the team, I would be shocked if no draft day trades happened to snag a WR in the earlier part of the first round. While Sammy Watkins and Evans will likely be gone, the Niners should be able to grab Beckham Jr. or Marquis Lee with a trade of picks. They would only trade up for a WR in my opinion. If they stay put at their current position, then they should go with CB as their pick.

As far as the rest of their picks, they should grab some long term pieces. Justin Smith will not be around too much longer and a replacement should be found now. With no idea of Chris Culliver's situation, the team will probably draft 2 CBs to prepare for the worst. On the offensive side of the ball, a lot of news has been out there that Harbaugh has been working out a few QBs so we figure to see a QB drafted as a side project for Jim to work on. With the last few picks, the Niners will add some pieces to fight for roster spots including another Wr, safety, and possibly some offensive linemen.
