The 2014 Niners Nation NFL mock draft is off and running. We move on to the Arizona Cardinals, courtesy of user MidnightSpecial.

We're back for the 52nd pick of the 2014 Niners Nation Community Mock Draft. You can see previous picks below in the draft table. You can also follow the mock draft board through this story stream.

With the 52nd pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, MidnightSpecial and the Arizona Cardinals select Ra'Shede Hageman, DT, Minnesota. He also considered defensive lineman Stephen Tuitt, outside linebacker Marcus Smith OLB, and offensive lineman Joel Bitonio. Here are his thoughts on the pick:

ILB, OLB, and Oline remain needs, but I feel that Hageman or Tuitt are better D line prospects than Marcus Smith, Christian Jones, or Joel Bitonio are relative to their respective positions. I would have loved to bolster the LB corp with Chris Borland, Kyle Van Noy, or Jeremiah Attaochu, but with them off the board it's Tuitt or Hageman. Tuitt, in my opinion, has a higher floor and lower ceiling than Hageman, and I chose the latter for the greater potential.

Ra'shede Hageman is a scary-scary War-Monster thing. 6'6" 310lbs with 34 inch arms and a 35 inch vertical jump, he is bullish strong but lanky quick, getting off the ball well to smash the pocket, rush the QB, and chase down plays. I see him as being able to play the 0, 3, or 5 technique (his favorite to play), rotating in all over the line, and the eventual replacement for Darnell Dockett.

The biggest critique on Hageman is inconsistency and lack of stats (and pad level and hand technique...of course), but he was THE guy on the Minnesota D-line, and often faced double and sometimes triple teams.  His motor looks better to me on the 2013 tape than in 2012, and he'll have excellent mentorship in Arizona, so I am not as worried about inconsistency as some. Plus, how often do you get to draft a guy in round two that you seriously considered in round one? As he learns to be more aggressive and use his size fully, he will be an every-down force.

Nick Chiamardas: Hageman is a fringe first rounder so I love the value for the Cardinals. Hageman is athletic enough to line up anywhere across a defensive line and will fit perfectly at 5T end behind the 33 year old Darnell Docket. Getting Hageman this late is a steal.
