2014 NFL Draft, Day 3: Best players available after Round 3

We take a look at options still available at some positions the 49ers could target on day three.

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Day two of the NFL Draft was a whirlwind night for 49ers fans, with trades down and up the board happening faster than lightning. Trent Baalke's plan was this all along, as he had chances to draft receivers such as Cody Latimer and Allen Robinson but opted to trade down instead. The 49ers were able to create solid depth on the roster along the offensive line, at running back, and at inside linebacker, now I expect the focus to shift on the final day of the draft.

Here are some options of interest at some positions the 49ers could target on day three and some options still left at them. You can also read through Mocking the Draft's order of best remaining players.

Quarterback:

  • A.J. McCarron
  • Zach Mettenberger
  • Tom Savage
  • Logan Thomas
  • Aaron Murray
  • David Fales

Wide Receiver:

  • Bruce Ellington
  • Martavis Bryant
  • Cody Hoffman
  • Robert Herron
  • Kevin Norwood
  • Jared Abbrederis
  • Tevin Reese
  • Shaq Evans

Cornerback:

  • Pierre Desir
  • Victor Hampton
  • Keith McGill
  • Walt Aikens
  • Jaylen Watkins
  • Marcus Roberson
  • Antone Exum

Outside Linebacker:

  • Carl Bradford
  • Christian Jones
  • Telvin Smith

Inside Linebacker:

  • Shayne Skov
  • Max Bullough

Defensive Line

  • DaQuan Jones (DT)
  • Jackson Jeffcoat (DE)
  • Ed Stinson (DT/DE)
  • Anthony Johnson (DT)
  • Aaron Lynch (DE)

Tight End

  • Arthur Lynch
  • Xavier Grimble

The 49ers have seven picks on day 3, and it will be interesting to see if they end up using all seven. I expect Baalke to do a little more maneuvering, be it finally trading up, or trading picks for better ones in 2015. This has been an absolutely unpredictable draft for fans and analysts alike when it comes to the 49ers draft plans. I expect the 49ers to focus more on receiver, tight end, defensive line, and cornerback on day 3, but Baalke is not afraid to draft the best player available, regardless of the true need or not.

We all have favorites, who would you like to see the 49ers take on the final day of the draft? I'll be tweeting my thoughts on Twitter if you would like to be part of the discussion.
