Undrafted free agent signings 2014: Tracking the San Francisco 49ers UDFAs

The 2014 NFL Draft is wrapping up, and with the 49ers having used up all their picks, Trent Baalke, Jim Harbaugh and company are on the phone with undrafted college players. As soon as the draft ends, there is a swarm for every player on the market, and the 49ers will have some spots to fill.

Most of these undrafted signings will not make the 53-man roster, but we all know how the Kory Sheets Was Our Future mentality will work. The 49ers have worked their share of UDFAs into their roster in recent years. On the current roster, we're talking about guys like Tramaine Brock, Alex Boone, Ian Williams, Tony Jerod-Eddie, Demarcus Dobbs and Darryl Morris. There is always room for someone who can make an impact.

Over the last four years, the San Francisco 49ers have signed 67 college free agents and 11 of those players have made the active roster. That 16 percent figure falls just under the league average of 19 percent. The St. Louis Rams lead the NFL over that period, with 29 percent of UDFAs making the active roster.

From 2010 to 2013, the 49ers have signed three, three, three, and two UDFAs to the active roster, respectively. Here's the 49ers' official list of UDFAs from 2013. We even had some details on some of the signing bonus money handed out. This year, teams will have a maximum of $80,362 to spend on UDFA signing bonuses.

The offseason roster limit is 90 players, with teams eventually cutting down to 53 players at the end of training camp. The San Francisco 49ers current roster has 86 players following the 49ers addition of wide receiver Stevie Johnson and 12 draft picks. That means the 49ers can only add four undrafted free agents. 

I'll be posting updates in here, but it is important to note that until the 49ers announce moves, they will remain unofficial. These will mostly be based off Twitter reports, and players have been known to change their mind (LeGarrette Blount is one example). The 49ers will announce their UDFA signings in the coming days.
