Good morning everyone, with the draft concluded we can finally start looking forward to actual football. Players can already work out at team facilities, and it won't be long before organized team activities (OTA) begin. Waiting until the end of August for the season to start is always a pain, but hey, at least with the draft pushed back two weeks, we're two weeks closer to football. Maybe the NFL really does know what it's doing.
Now that the draft is over, every team is allowed 90 players on the roster, that's counting injured and possibly suspended players. The 49ers are at the 90 man limit already, and have had to cut some players to make room for rookies. Yesterday, the 49ers brought in a QB to compete for a backup spot behind Colin Kaepernick. This time it was former 49er and Jim Harbaugh protege from his San Diego days, Josh Johnson. Josh bounced around after his time with the 49ers ended in 2012, but he was able to stick around with the Bengals for the entirety of last season. As far as backup QB goes, I see no reason to have more than one on the 53. So theoretically, Blaine Gabbert, Josh Johnson, McLeod Bethel-Thompson, and Kory Faulkner should all be competing for one roster spot, with a practice squad spot waiting for someone. I can't wait to see what the final 53 man roster looks like, but for now, lets get to those links.
