Colin Kaepernick discusses Miami “suspicious incident” at Turlock prayer breakfast

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick spoke at a prayer breakfast in Turlock, California Friday morning, and he provided a few comments about the Miami "suspicious incident" that resulted in TMZ reporting he was being investigated for sexual assault. Kap had initially spoken out on Twitter about the incident, but since then we have not heard anything from him.

At the Friday morning prayer breakfast, he made some comments on the situation:

"It's been put out that I did something wrong. Even though it's a bad circumstance, a bad situation, I feel like ultimately I've been blessed because it's changed my way of thinking. It's made me stronger. It's made me look at things differently."
.....
"Even this morning, this is a blessing. It makes me very happy to know that people are staying behind me the way they have."

Last week, Miami police were expected to release Ricardo Lockette's 9-1-1 call, but that has been indefinitely delayed. There has not been a complaint of wrong-doing, and none of the three players involved have actually been accused of anything, in spite of TMZ's contention otherwise.

If this goes away as expected, it will be interesting to see how this impacts Kap's dealings with people. In reality we won't actually see this, so I suppose it's more just something to ponder. Kap's popularity has exploded over the last year and a half, which generally means there are more people looking to take advantage of him in some form or fashion. All indications are that he has grown up in an excellent environment, and seems to have a good handle on life in general.

But he'll need to remain careful in dealing with various people who might otherwise have bad intentions. And of course it will also be about avoiding bad situations. Even the most innocent of individuals can end up in a bad situation through no fault of their own. Ideally someone can avoid them altogether, but when these situations do arise, the key is to get away from it as quickly as possible.

There is also some video from Kap's chat at the prayer breakfast. This is about his faith and his work. Even if you're not a religious person, it's a pretty interesting video to watch.
