Golden Nuggets: Jimmie Ward Likely Ready for Training Camp

Monday, May 26, 2014 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of 49ers links from around the web.

The San Francisco 49ers Rookie Camp is in full swing, but the participation of 2014 first round draft choice Jimmie Ward has been minor. He has been limited to walk-through sessions and tossing the football on the sidelines. It looks like the medical and training staff is easing him in until he is fully recovered from the foot surgery he had. The Jones fracture injury was discovered during medical examinations at the NFL Combine.

CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco reports that the team expects him to begin active participation at the training camp in late July. This looks to be a low-key injury, but as usual the 49ers training staff is playing it conservatively. Like with any 1st pick, I'm excited to see him out on the field especially with the veterans on defense. Ward has a lot of learning to do, and much of it happens when you are out there running plays or scrimmaging in practice. I expect him to make a significant impact on the defense this year just like Eric Reid did last season.
