Golden Nuggets: In The Trenches

Tuesday, May 27th, 2014 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from around the Internet

Ezra Shaw

The 49ers offensive line is one of the team's biggest strengths and this year should be no different. Staley, Iupati, Boone, and Davis should be automatic starters. The only position that could see some competition is the center position. Daniel Kilgore is the starter as of right now, but rookie Marcus Martin could provide some competition.

As far as the rest of the depth chart, Jonathan Martin should prove to be a good backup. Depending on the battle for the starting center position, Kilgore/Martin would be the backup. I expect Looney to win the probable last spot on the depth chart with his versatility. With all the talent on the offensive line, the team is in a good position if Iupati walks when he is a free agent next year. And with Brandon Thomas sitting out this year to heal, it adds another talented lineman to throw in the fray next year.
