Rams get the early edge in NFL.com standings

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The 2014 NFL regular season is a little less than four months away, but it appears we have a new front-runner in the division. NFL.com has their standings page in place, and they currently have the St. Louis Rams as the "first place team" (h/t Turf Show Times). They are all listed at 0-0, but on the team pages they list the Rams in first, the 49ers in second, the Seahawks in third, and the Cardinals in fourth.

I realize it's just a random ranking at this point, but it's still amusing. We can say this is one of the few times this year the Rams will probably be in first place in the NFC West!

I suppose it is possible the Rams could get the early jump on the division. Based on the four NFC West schedules, you could make an argument that the Rams have the best chance of winning their opener. In case you forgot, all four teams are actually favored in their openers. The Rams are an improved team this season, and while I don't think they will claim the division crown, they could very well overtake the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals are coming off a 10-6 season, but they're getting up there in age, and face a difficult 2014 schedule. The Rams will actually need to figure out their quarterback situation, but that defense is growing, and they might have as good a defensive line as anybody in the league.

Whether or not Sam Bradford (or whomever is quarterbacking them) is up to the challenge remains to be seen, but in the meantime, they've always got this!
