49ers OTAs, Day 2: Marcus Lattimore practicing without knee brace, Stevie Johnson working through something

The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up day 2 of OTAs. We've got some updates on participants, and how it all might impact the depth chart.

Fooch's Update: 1. Harbaugh transcript; 2. Kap transcript

The San Francisco 49ers hit the field for Day 2 of OTAs, and the attendance reports provide a few details for us. We already knew Alex Boone was not going to be in attendance, reportedly due to his contract. Cam Inman had the first attendance report, indicating that Vernon Davis, Frank Gore and Stevie Johnson were all absent. He also went into who was participating in stretching vs. full team drills. According to Matt Maiocco, Jim Harbaugh said Gore was working out in the morning, but was not taking part in the afternoon practices. Gore suffered a broken hand against the Seahawks, but there has been no word on his injury status,

According to Jim Harbaugh, Stevie Johnson is "working through something". This apparently led to Brandon Lloyd getting a lot of reps at wide receiver (h/t @ChrisBiderman). There is no word on how much work Bruce Ellington and Quinton Patton were getting. Kaepernick sounded particularly effusive in his praise for Brandon Lloyd. Cam Inman is working on a transcript, and should have it soon. This was an interesting quotation from Kap in regard to Lloyd:

It will be interesting to see who gets what time at wide receiver when training camp gets here. Stevie Johnson would seemingly be the strong front-runner for WR3, but then you've got Brandon Lloyd, Quinton Patton, Bruce Ellington, Jon Baldwin competing for whatever is left over. That WR4 is seemingly not looking at a ton of playing time, although if the 49ers are confident with that receiver, maybe that just means more rest for Anquan Boldin and/or Michael Crabtree. It's really hard to tell given what little the 49ers do with extensive wide receiver sets.

According to Inman and Biderman, Chris Culliver stretched out, but did not participate in team drills. They said this led to Chris Cook getting first team reps opposite Tramaine Brock. Additionally, Inman reported that Eric Wright tweaked his ankle early in practice. Once the team is at full strength, it will be interesting to see who is paired up with Cook behind Brock and Culliver. Or, if Culliver takes time to get back from his ACL, who would be behind the Brock/Cook combination. This is all assuming Cook is able to secure that spot on the depth chart. We're two days into OTAs, so it's not like anything is written in stone yet.

Fooch's Update: Matt Barrows indicated Wright was starting opposite Brock before injuring his ankle.

Aside from Frank Gore, Carlos Hyde was not in attendance on Wednesday. He is taking part in the NFLPA's Rookie Premiere event in Los Angeles. This event involves primarily skill position players (and some notable defensive players) and is a chance to build their brand, help them network, and generally start getting used to the NFL. This is different from the NFL's rookie symposium, which usually takes place in June.

With Gore and Hyde away from the facility, Kendall Hunter, LaMichael James, Jewel Hampton, and Marcus Lattimore split up carries. He apparently was not wearing a brace, and looked solid enough for non-contact work:

My favorite report from day 2 of OTAs? It's gotta be this one. I'd pay money to see Lawrence Okoye return a kick in the preseason.
