With the NFL Draft just days away, the players that are thought to be on 49ers radar change on a daily basis. After the Niners draft their players this weekend, the player that may have the most eyes on him this year will be a player drafted last year, but has yet to play. Marcus Lattimore was a star at South Carolina until a gruesome knee injury ended his college career and nearly ended his football career. His injury list included tears in his ACL, MCL, and PCL. The Niners took him in the 4th round of the draft knowing that he would be out for the year.
After over a year of rehab with the Niners, Lattimore is expected to compete for a backup spot behind another former college star RB who suffered a knee injury, Frank Gore. What better situation for Lattimore to learn than from a player who knows what he is going through. Gore can ease his mind about the physical and mental hurdles he will have to face having gone through the same situation himself. Gore quickly put any doubts of the Niners drafting him by excelling for the team. Niner fans can only hope that Lattimore becomes Gore 2.0 and fulfills the potential we saw before his knee injury derailed his excellent college career.
